Integrated Design

Because the integrated design process facilitates a new dimension of building – cost-secure and ESG-compliant, sustainable and successful.

Interdisciplinary cooperation and modern knowledge management have enabled ATP architects engineers to become the leading integrated design company in Continental Europe. Because we take responsibility. Because our clients are convinced by our work.

ESG targets, EU Taxonomy, and divergences between not only stakeholder interests but also Europe’s many legal environments mean that complex buildings can only be planned with the help of digitally supported processes. But if collaborative work in BIM databases is not based on the integrated cooperation between all participants in the process, then a project is destined to suffer from the deficits that we already know far too well from the analog world and that regularly lead to problems and to wasted time, money, and resources: interfaces, errors, communication and coordination difficulties, lost information, and trouble and irritation on every side.

ATP architects engineers - Andreas Rieser, Managing Director, Nuremberg

At ATP architects engineers, integrated design is far more than just a technical process – it is the key to a new culture of building. A culture of cooperation and mutual trust.

Whether analog or digital – “together” rather than “one after the other” is the magic formula of integrated design: “working cooperatively in an interdisciplinary team,” simultaneously and as equal partners. The same applies to planning within a digital model: As a BIM pioneer, ATP has been at the cutting edge of the development of this digital method since 2012, precisely because the BIM model – unlike consecutively structured processes – optimally supports integrated cooperation.

The culture of integrated design has to be learnt and practiced every day. In order to arrive at optimal results, our teams have excellent methods, processes, and tools that permit them to enhance their skills, resilience, and resources. Modern knowledge management within our network of over 1.500+ ambitious and experienced colleagues, enhanced by the expertise of our in-house research, specialist design, and consulting companies in the fields of sustainability, process engineering, and real estate development, offers certainty to both them and their clients.

Integrated design

Integrated design – what can it do?

  • Integrated design combines architecture, structural engineering, building services (TGA), the tender and contract process (AVA), and object monitoring into a single coherent entity. Our teams assume responsibility to our clients for the entire design and construction process up to the handover to the facility managers in the shape of architecture-lead project management.

  • In addition to achieving the highest possible built quality, today’s other key challenges – for clients, designers, investors, and operators – include ESG targets, EU Taxonomy, CO₂ neutrality, and the related reevaluation of buildings. Integrated design offers a holistic overview of:

    • the optimal support of the building’s value creation processes (economic sustainability),

    • the avoidance of waste through the saving of resources and energy efficiency (ecological sustainability),

    • the high comfort of users and operations (social sustainability).

  • By standardizing the key integrated design processes, ATP can delegate responsibility internally within its team while ensuring a consistently high quality of design. We see each challenge as an opportunity to create structures that go beyond the ordinary and to produce dynamic, sustainable spaces that shape the future of building.

  • Integrated design always begins with many questions. We listen to and learn from one another. The many years of training of our architects and engineers in the use of a single language, supported by the possibilities offered by digital design with BIM, put us in a position to meet the expectations of clients and the clear targets of sustainable building with a high degree of dependability.

  • The buildings of the future must be able to react to change with agility and flexibility. Today, flexibility and plannability are THE sought-after components of a successful building. Thanks to our professional organization and our integrated design culture, we are able to rapidly realize or revitalize large and complex projects or integrate change processes and prognoses into each planning phase.

  • We consider a structure holistically across its entire lifecycle, pool knowhow and information, and share reliable numbers and analyses in good time with all participants. In order to keep to the given cost framework, we very precisely calculate and predict the total costs in a lifecycle-oriented review and control process. We can also rapidly determine potential cost increases or reductions as a means of offering cost security during the early design phases and up to the operational phase – for sustainably successful projects.

Interdisciplinary and simultaneous

What is integrated design at ATP?

We define integrated design as the simultaneous and interdisciplinary interaction of the creative input of all participants in the planning process with the objective of ensuring that a building project optimally achieves its goals. At ATP, our project teams consist of the three key service providers in the planning process (architects and structural and building services engineers. Specialists in the areas of ESG and landscape planning and interior design, complemented where necessary by our experts from the specialist design, research, and consulting companies support our team.

  • The creative impulse – more than just design

We design buildings with added value. But our work doesn’t end with the project. Our architects and designers work in simultaneous dialog with our structural engineers and building services experts in order to ensure that their visions are not only aesthetically impressive but also functional and fit for the future.

Dario Travas, Managing Director of the ATP office in Zagreb and Head of Design in Vienna.

At ATP, architecture is the art of symbiosis. Our architects are not just designers, they are visionaries who transform their ideas into spaces that come alive.

Architect, Partner, Head of Design in Vienna and Managing Director in Zagreb and Belgrade

  • The invisible force

Every extraordinary building contains an equally extraordinary structure. Our structural engineers work at the interface between creativity and precision. They design buildings that defy the forces of nature while saving resources. They enable an image to become an object and ensure that form and function merge to create a harmonious whole.

  • The heartbeat of a building

Building Services are the nervous system of each building, controlling and optimizing all its vital functions. Our building services engineers do not think about isolated solutions but, rather, about systems that transform buildings into living organisms that are efficient, sustainable, and future-oriented. They are the masters of the invisible technology that not only keeps a building running but can also make it a pioneer in such areas as energy efficiency and environmental protection.

  • The guardians of quality

AVA and Object Monitoring are where everything comes together. This is where projects are not only planned and calculated but also monitored down to the very last detail in order to ensure that each element meets its purpose. Our experts are the guardians of quality who guarantee that visions become reality – according to budget and timetable and with a relentless focus on perfection.
