Our Culture

architects and engineers for better buildings

Our enthusiasm for good architecture knows no bounds. Because we want to change the world for the better with our buildings.

The core value of cooperation is the cement that binds us. We all agree that clear commitment and open dialog – among ourselves and with all project participants – are the basic requirements for our special way of working, integrated design. Inspired by the Vitruvian notion of the “good building” – of the perfect balance between aesthetic, functional, and constructional considerations – we want to positively shape the built environment. This is why our values, our way of working, the organization of our design offices, and the processes and systems that underpin our collaboration are all aligned with this vision.

Great things are created in a team – we are convinced of this. And this is why cooperation is our central corporate value.

Our corporate values

What is important to us

Our name ATP architects engineers embodies the special form of cooperation that was initiated by our founders many years ago. Back then, this collaborative approach in which all members of the design team work as equals, free of interfaces, was unknown in Continental Europe. In order to contribute to a better, cooperative building culture in Europe, we have steadily developed this planning method together with our partners. The complexity of current construction and the need to meet our clients’ ESG objectives demand integrated design. We exploit this advantage – to ensure the sustainable quality and economic success of the buildings of tomorrow.

  • We are convinced that we architects and engineers can – and, most importantly, must – positively influence the built environment with our holistic thinking and proactive design.

This is why we at ATP already began, back in the 1970s, an internal cultural transformation as a way of countering the waste of time and resources common to the design and construction process. During the past 50 years we have developed a European form of integrated design in which all the participants in the planning process work on a project from day one – as equal partners, interdisciplinarily, simultaneously, and, since 2012, exclusively digitally with BIM.

In contrast with standard, consecutive planning processes, integrated design is able to exploit all the advantages of BIM in the interests of the sustainable quality of a design – and to significantly reduce the resources, time, and money wasted during the planning, construction, and, finally, operation of a building.

  • We understand before we plan. We only begin to design a building when we fully understand its purpose and function.

Ideally, our clients have formulated a real estate strategy and carried out a feasibility study in order to define the ordering quality of their building. But if they haven’t, we support them with the help of our specialist consulting companies in the areas of sustainability and ESG, process technology and real estate development.

In doing this, we offer far more than a standard design service: We change perspective and use our own expertise to verticalize our range of services. Always focused on the core process that should take place in a building, we analyze the starting point and work with our client to clarify the needs, requirements, and objectives of an implementable project strategy before we launch the first phase of the integrated design process, which is geared towards a long operating life. From day one, we bring together all specialists, in-house, with one shared objective: to design a bespoke building that has maximum functional flexibility and can be optimally used over the long term.

  • The corporate structure of our learning organization permits all our offices and specialists to generate knowhow and to share this knowhow in flat hierarchies and between the generations.

As ATP has standardized its key planning processes across more than 20 design, research, and consulting companies, responsibility can be delegated within the team without compromising our consistently high quality. This dynamic culture of exchanging knowhow between all specialist disciplines is an integral part of our corporate strategy. It is also expressed by our internal education and training program, the ATP Academy. This not only places the pooled knowhow of the entire group at the disposal of all ATP’s employees: It also forms a team of highly-qualified personnel that can be mobilized both within our individual offices and across the Europe-wide ATP network.
