A Building Full of Energy

Network Headquarters of LINZ NETZ GmbH

With the extraordinary “smart” building services in its new headquarters, the Upper Austrian energy supplier is ensuring a climate-friendly energy future. The striking green facade with PV strips also enables the building to communicate its sustainability targets to the surrounding area.

A need for large amounts of extra space prompted LINZ NETZ GmbH to construct a new network headquarters. Our concept, which lends the building a strong sense of identity, was successful in the tender process thanks to its particularly environmentally-friendly building services and facade solution. With its new transformer station, high-tech data center, district cooling plant, and modern offices, the multifunctional building ensemble will guarantee the future supply security of the region.

Smart building services
As a local energy supplier, LINZ NETZ GmbH wants to be a role model. Hence, the electricity for the in-house server rooms and the transformer station is provided by the building’s own energy network, which is fed from renewable sources (geothermal, photovoltaic). The air in the offices and meeting rooms is conditioned by heating and cooling ceilings. And the cooling energy for the office spaces comes from the innovative district cooling system and the cooling towers on the building.

Office facade as trademark
The distinctive centerpiece of the new corporate headquarters is the elegant office building. Rising above the glass base, vertical strips in two colors accentuate the skin of the building facing the street, creating a fascinating interplay of light and dark. In addition to this, the powerful facade also has ecological qualities: It ensures visual comfort and sound protection while also feeding energy into the building’s own network thanks to its flexibly designed PV panels.
A second, somewhat simpler volume is enhanced by the rich evergreen planting scheme on its courtyard facade, which absorbs around seven decibels of noise and 30 % of the fine particles in the air.

ATP architekten ingenieure planned the green courtyard of the office building of Linz Netze GmbH in Linz.
