Green Growth

eww Headquarters in Wels

An energy center that is fit for the future: Our competition project for the expansion of the eww Headquarters brings together flexible working and production environments in a sustainable building concept.

The decision was taken to comprehensively upgrade and expand the main location of the Wels energy provider eww at Linzer Straße 275. We designed a building complex with offices and production and logistics space, whose optimal working environment would boost internal communication, reduce lifecycle costs, and support the client’s strategic objectives. We were awarded 3rd prize in the 2nd phase of the competitive dialogue.

Potential expansion and adaptability
Our project places a specific focus on the flexibility and adaptability of the spaces, with the objective of meeting future requirements and driving dynamic growth. The existing building is reused wherever possible and only adapted where necessary. New structures, in particular for the office and production areas, are strategically positioned outside the zone occupied by the geothermal probes in order to avoid foundation issues and minimize construction costs. This approach permits rapid realization and flexible expansion. Some office areas can be expanded as required in response to changing demand.

Green electricity
The existing on-site generation of electricity is expanded further by the use of additional areas of roof for photovoltaic plant. Provision is made for an electricity storage facility if this is required. This expansion of the plant would enable up to 1.2 MWp of electricity to be produced. Charging stations for electric vehicles are created on the parking deck and in the open areas of parking.

All under one roof
In future working environments, employees will be able to make use of a range of activity-based spaces: Leisure areas, focus zones, and spaces for communication and collaboration provide suitable work settings. The production and logistics areas are centralized and optimized in order to guarantee efficient use. This design approach makes the optimum use of the existing high-quality building structure, which is only adapted to meet the latest needs in specific areas. The central positioning of the production spaces and the creation of an interconnecting spine minimizes travel distances for employees.
