New Office Building for ŠKODA AUTO

Laurin & Klement Kampus

We were commissioned by Volkswagen Immobilien to plan the state-of-the-art building ensemble on the basis of a winning competition entry. From day one, the focuses of the project were sustainability, energy efficiency, and the flexibility of the working areas. This also involved targeted measures in the areas of building services and architecture.

Green deal: Sustainability target “DGNB Gold”
The “Laurin & Klement Kampus” sets standards in the area of sustainability: ATP architects engineers cooperated closely with ATP sustain to develop the particularly long-term building concept in line with VWI’s guidelines for “good planning and efficient building” and the requirements of the Blue Buildings Standard. The compact constructional approach and such targeted measures as a highly thermally insulated building envelope, largescale PV plant, and state-of-the-art ventilation systems result in higher operational energy efficiency. 797,500 kWh/a less energy are required each year in comparison with reference buildings, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of around 136 households.

Modular segmental concept
A highly-flexible and modular grid system structures the entire campus and stretches from the underground garage, via the ground-floor base, to the four office towers. The entire building and the use-dependent areas are divided into several smaller functional segments. All elements are connected with the central building services plant and can be controlled from a central point. The air conditioning and media supply in each space can be altered at the push of a button depending upon its use – from office to meeting room, etc.

The modular segment concept was developed as a modular solution so that it can be used in other Škoda buildings with completely different functions.

Campus with “kinked” office wings
Four office wings, each with a “kink,” combine to form the 44,000-m² office building, whose compact building method enabled us to create a campus-like structure on a small building plot. The intelligent arrangement of the four components generates three open courtyards that offer permeability and a wide range of views and combine to form a special spatial experience.

Activity-based workplace
The new headquarters are designed in line with the activity-based working concept and perfectly aligned with employee needs. The many bridges linking the four office wings generate synergy effects between the different departments. The zoning system is based on a range of requirements, needs, and activities. These are focused on the principle of desk-sharing. In addition to these office zones, the building also offers community areas for networking, exchange, and relaxation. This broad range of options helps to optimize well-being, creativity, and productivity.
