Timber Construction
“Grand Central” as a highlight in the specialist magazine mikado
The German magazine for timber building featured the office complex in Vienna, that was realized using a hybrid timber method, in an eight-page specialist article alongside an interview with ATP’s project leaders.
The “Grand Central” office complex in Vienna is the main feature in the 10.2024 edition of mikado, the association magazine of Holzbau Deutschland – the German Carpentry Association.
In his editorial, Editor-in-Chief Christoph Maria Dauner presents the project as a flagship project for timber building: In Europe, many of today’s timber buildings are reaching a scale that long appeared impossible. This is why we have consciously selected two flagship projects that (…) are making a real splash. The office building at Vienna’s Floridsdorf station is located alongside the suburban railway and was built on top of the metro. These are really special challenges. The Austrians solved them with a combination of cross-laminated timber, steel, and concrete.”
The eight-page specialist article investigates the specific design requirements and emphasizes the advantages of the hybrid timber construction method, with a particular focus on structural design. In an interview, ATP’s project leaders, the architect Siniša Macedonić and structural engineer Wojciech Tomczak, discuss details of the design and construction.
