The ATP Hackathon
Der Computational Design Hackathon was a success again
ATP architects engineers has organized its second “Computational Design Hackathon.” Interested participants from the areas of architecture, engineering, and sustainability came together to jointly develop innovative solutions and, hence, optimize the architectural design process. The event was once again full of creativity and the spirit of innovation!
Following the first, internal event at ATP Hamburg in December 2022, this second Hackathon took place in cooperation with Alejandro Fuentes Arias from the international design office KCAP at ATP’s headquarters in Innsbruck.
Making use of every possibility in order to obtain the best results: This is precisely where new technologies come into play – as do the creative minds, who can then use them to stimulate the AEC sector. Computational Design is a design method that uses algorithms to intelligently combine all the parameters of integrated design.
The Hackathon is an initiative of the Computational Design Team at ATP, which aims to drive research and support the various project teams in such areas as generative design, data driven design, data exchange, and design automation. During the three-day event, the participants not only mastered a series of tasks, but also jointly investigated potential ways of automating, analyzing, and optimizing the design process.
New technologies help us to automate repetitive processes and find new creative solutions. Advances in the field of computational design will change our way of designing forever. The Hackathon was an excellent opportunity to collaborate with like-minded colleagues – because only by working together will we develop excellent solutions! Huge thanks to our Computational Design Lead Lila Panahikazemi for the organization.

The atmosphere amongst the participants was full of enthusiasm and creativity. Interdisciplinary teamworking benefits from sharing experiences from each area as a means of expanding overall knowhow. Many thanks are due to all participants, mentors, and organizers and, especially, to all those at ATP Innsbruck who made the event possible. The next Hackathon is planned for autumn 2023.
