ATP architects engineers offered me an enriching experience in the form of a job rotation. This enabled me to swap Zurich for Innsbruck as a way of learning different ways of working, gathering knowhow in new fields, and strengthening links with my Austrian colleagues.

Thanks to ATP’s “job rotation” initiative, I was able to look beyond the horizon of my home base in Zurich and enjoy a change of scene at ATP Innsbruck. This also allowed me to see with my own eyes how such a posting facilitates new perspectives, new friendships, and new experiences.

Expanding my horizon thanks to ATP Job Rotation
As a position was open in Innsbruck, I had the chance to spend a period working in another office. Unfortunately, such opportunities aren’t available in every company. On my first day in Innsbruck I was warmly welcomed by my fellow Group Leader in Innsbruck, Klaus Hessenberger, who incorporated me into his group. My new colleagues were very open, which allowed me to integrate rapidly into my new design office. I was able to gather experience through working in new project and team structures with ATP colleagues from every design discipline. The team spirit amongst the employees was excellent. I was also amazed by the huge wealth of knowhow and experience at the long-established ATP office. Personally, I was particularly impressed by “Integrated Design with Speedy Processes” and the culture of direct and rapid mutual exchange.

I worked on a project in Bavaria. I was amused by the fact of being a German, who had just arrived in Switzerland and was now spending some time in Austria working on a German project.

My most impressive moments
During my time in Innsbruck I was able to gather many valuable memories at both the professional and personal level. The motivational excursion with Klaus Hessenberger’s Group was a special experience and I will never forget cooking in the cafeteria for the first time. Even the view from the Innsbruck office – of Tyrol’s wonderful mountain landscape – was amazing. The evening with my new friends at the open air cinema in the Zeughaus is another precious memory from my time in Austria. At the end of my rob rotation I enjoyed a meal – and raised my glass – with my wonderful colleagues.

My new insights
Thanks to the Zurich’s proximity to Innsbruck I was able to commute. This meant that I could keep up my personal contacts in my hometown. In the six months that I spent in Tyrol’s provincial capital, I was able to become newly and intensely acquainted with Austria while gathering a wealth of experience. But the best thing was making new friendships and getting to know my Innsbruck colleagues personally. This also led to improved inter-office cooperation after my visit. I still cherish these contacts, acquaintanceships, and friendships – at both the personal and professional levels.

Gathering international experience, changing perspectives, developing a company-wide network, expanding specialist knowhow: Job rotation – systematically changing jobs for a limited period – has many advantages. Being well aware of this, we at ATP enable our employees to spend time learning and travelling within the ATP network and enjoying a change of scene in our various European offices.
