Construction of a new Building 2 for the psychiatric stations in Hall in Tirol

A clinic building with wellness vibes: Our design for a new building for the psychiatric stations, which has been ranked 3rd in a negotiation procedure, exploits relationships with the surrounding landscape to create a pleasant atmosphere for patients while also delivering a high level of ecological quality.

A new building for Building 2 and its psychiatric stations is being planned for the provincial hospital in Hall in Tirol. The new building should not only be functionally integrated into the complex but also generate an agreeable atmosphere for its users. It was also required that the project should be integrated into the park-like surroundings of the location. We responded to the brief by developing a building that combines the efficient structure of a hospital with the wellness atmosphere of a hotel.

Healing environment with a relationship to nature
The concept inserts Building 2 amongst the existing structures and continues the sense of visual and physical transparency that dominates the hospital complex. And yet the new building also appears as a clearly legible, autonomous element. To this end, the existing copper beech is used to highlight the entrance to the new building. The relationship with nature, natural light, and fresh air is further ensured by generous terraces, atria with gardens, and additional areas of greenery.

Nature, fresh air, and light are permanently present in our concept. The richly planted roofs and terraces are accessible to patients, offering them a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

The friendly and authentic character of the design is also reflected in the proposal for an impregnated timber facade. This is notable for its striking horizontal strips and green sunblinds, which provide a further link with the surroundings.

Compact, functional, & forward-looking
We designed the new building as a compact, longitudinal standalone structure on a stepped back ground floor base. The volumes are generally notable for their efficiency, which facilitates both functional and well-organized floor plans and resource-friendly construction. The comprehensive energy concept envisages the use of locally available natural and regenerative energy sources as a means of significantly reducing the CO₂ footprint. Overall, the design offers optimal conditions for meeting the objectives of the program “TYROL 2050 – our province will be energy independent” and the requirements of the EU Green Deal.
