Buddy System at ATP

Support for new employees

ATP architects engineers worked with Helena Crnjevic in Zagreb.

The junior engineer Helena Črnjević looks back fondly on her first days at ATP. During her onboarding she was actively supported by her mentor Maja Maršić. This meant that she could ask questions and discuss problems at any time.

I began my first day’s work at ATP architects engineers in Zagreb in October 2023. I was warmly greeted by my new team, including my personal buddy Maja Maršić, who supported me with advice and assistance during those first six months.

My experience of the buddy system
When one starts a new job in a new town, the first few weeks can be tough. But even if you’re not moving home there are still enough challenges. Thanks to Maja, everything was easier for me. I was able to count on her at all times. As my buddy she was able to offer advice not only about my work but also about personal matters. For example, buddies at ATP can voluntarily help new employees to find a flat, show them around town or support them in finding people with similar interests.

In my case, Maja played an important role in helping me to adjust rapidly to my new job. It was so much easier to “arrive” in the company because I knew that she was there for me. She helped me to sort out a number of problems during those first weeks. As my buddy, she showed me how Enterprise Resource Planning ATP 360 works: I learnt, for example, how to enter my hours, request holidays or days off and much more besides. Upon successfully completing your trial period, if you would also like to help newcomers to ATP you can become a buddy yourself.

All in all I can only be positive about the ATP buddy system, which, officially, lasts for six months. But even when this period is over, you can of course always turn to your buddy with questions and problems. In my opinion, other companies should also offer such a mentoring program as part of the official onboarding. Thanks to this support, I suffered from little uncertainty during those first few weeks. Due to Maja, I felt that I was in good hands from day one and became integrated into the office very quickly.

Helena is a very smart person, who wants to learn and explore new things. She is very caring towards others and enjoys sharing her knowledge. Helena loves her job, and you can see that. I have enjoyed being her Buddy because everything was really easy with her.

ATP Zagreb

My future in a large team
More than 70 employees work alongside me in the design office in the Croatian capital. My mentor Maja has already supported ATP for many years as a structural engineer. Now I also work in this area. I’m a real team player and my ambition is to constantly learn and develop further. I’m motivated by the idea of solving new tasks and challenges. This all explains why I joined ATP: I chose the company because of integrated design. As a junior engineer, I want to expand my expert knowledge and get to know other perspectives, such as those of my architecture and building services engineering colleagues. And ATP offers me the opportunity to work on large and complex projects. I can get actively involved and employ and expand my skills. Now I’m fully integrated in the team, but I look back on my early days with pleasure.
