Zentralklinikum Hochrhein: comission for VAMED, ATP & BE
VAMED Germany has been commissioned by the District of Waldshut to deliver the general planning of the new Zentralklinikum Hochrhein together with its design partners ATP architects engineers and Baumschlager Eberle Architekten.
An exemplary hospital building with around 360 beds should be completed at Albbruck by 2029 – as the centerpiece of the health park of the same name that is being realized simultaneously as a separate project.
Healing environment
The objective of the design is to create the optimum healing environment for the patients. On the one hand, this is achieved by breaking down the large structure into a series of volumes that have a gentler impact on the human eye – three higher and three lower volumes that step backwards and forwards to create a new building that transmits the feeling of a small town. And, on the other hand, this staggered arrangement of the wards enhances the sense of privacy and opens up views into the surrounding landscape, which includes a large garden for patients.
Particularly sustainable
Climate-friendly materials, optimal insulation, green roofs, photovoltaic plant, and heat pumps ensure that the energy and building physics aspects of the clinic meet all the latest climate and sustainability criteria. In addition to this, the annual primary energy requirements and levels of CO₂ emissions are far below the legal limits.
The new clinic puts the focus on patients while its well-thought out functionality, environmentally-friendly materials, and energy-efficient building services ensure sustainable top-quality health care – a milestone for the health system in the region.
